Our History. . .
The menu front is a replica of the one used by the Silver Skillet’s first patrons in May 1956. The original
owners purchased the horse pictures that your see hanging on the wall today for their daughter who had
horses. They continue to be a part of the Silver Skillet as our good luck charms.
In May, 1967, George Decker and Louise, purchased The Silver Skillet. George successfully operated the
restaurant for 21 years until his passing in 1988. Teresa, his daughter, having grown up in the business,
continues the tradition of dedication to good service and good food, along with her husband, Jeff.
Because of its period atmosphere, The Silver Skillet has been featured in several movies, commercials,
videos, and print ads. To name a few, John Lithgow in HBO's "Traveling Man", Rebecca DeMournay in
TV's "Getting Out", kim Basinger and Val kilmer's movie, "The Real McCoy", several episodes of TV's
"I'll Fly Away" starring Sam Waterston, Neal Patrick Harris in TV's "Sudden Fury", TBS movie, "The
Hank Aaron Story”, TNT movie "Passing Glory", starring Rip Torn, Lifetime Channel’s "The Price of a
Broken Heart'', starring Park Overall, Denzel Washington's movie, “Remember the Titans”; music videos
such as Travis Tritt’s “Here’s a quarter, call someone who cares”, TLC’s last video “Destiny” and rap artist
Yung Wun’s first video, as well as commercials for Nationsbank, Bell South, Goody's, Ford Motor
Company, NAPAAuto Parts, and the Alabama and Georgia Lotteries. We are featured as the Day1 Diner
on Naomi Judd’s Hallmark channel’s Sunday AM show, on the Food Channel’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and
Dives”, with host Guy Fieri, Delta Air Lines “Local Flavor with Andrea Robinson”, we have been on the
CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News, ABC News Radio, Fox 5's "Good Day Atlanta", Comcast’s ON
Demand Channel and several local broadcasts. Several magazines and newspapers have featured us such
as The New York Times, USA Today, The Atlanta Constitution, Creative Loafing, The Atlanta Business
Chronicle, Food and Wine, Cooking Light, Atlanta CityMag, Atlanta Magazine, Conde Nast, Delta's Sky
Magazine, Mr. Food's Easy Cooking, A.M. Cooking, The Jewish Times, and Restaurant Magazine. Many
celebrities and notables such as Zell Miller, Paul Harvey, Walter Mondale, Paul Coverdell, Sally Jesse
Raphael, Robert Guillame, Ed Marinara, Fran Tarkenton, Luke Perry, Peter Tork, A. D. Frazier, katie
Couric, Ellis Marsalis, the O'Jays, John O’Hurley of Seinfeld, Nathalie Dupree, Sam Massell, Neal Bortz,
Governor Sonny Perdue, NYC Mayor Rudi Guiliani, Senator Saxby Chambliss, Senator Johnny Isaacson,
Congressman Phil Gingrey, Erwin Zaban, CBS newscaster Mark Strassman, The Black Crowe’s Chris &
Rich Robinson, Star 94’s Rob Stadler along with many local personalities make The Silver Skillet a
favorite stop. We even made the "National Enquirer”!
Teresa has been a guest on NBC’s Today Show with katie Couric and ABC’s Good Morning America
with Diane Sawyer and Charlie Gibson. CNN Travel Guide featured The Silver Skillet as "where to eat
Breakfast during the Olympics", and TNT featured us as one of Atlanta’s landmarks for Superbowl 2000.
Our Homemade Lemon Ice-Box Pie was voted one of the “5 Best Pies in the uSA” by Life Magazine.
